AP Donates Crash Helmets to 'Okada Riders'

African Petroleum Plc has donated crash helmets to ‘okada riders’ nationwide as part of its 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme.

The project is part of the company’s commitment to providing sustainable and practical contributions to programmes that aim to improve the lives of the Nigerian people. It is AP’s way of also appreciating the fact that the government through the Police, the FRSC and all other relevant agencies is playing its part in ensuring the safety of young men and sometimes women who ply our roads, daily contributing in their own way to keeping the engine of the economy running. It is in support of their laudable activities that African Petroleum Plc has decided to lend a helping hand by donating crash helmets free of charge to commercial motorcyclists in the country.

The first phase of this CSR project was held in Lagos State, on Wednesday 11th February 2009 at AP Awolowo Road Service Station, Ikoyi.  Prominent people who graced the occasion include the Corp Marshall/CEO, Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Osita Chidoka; The Chairman of Motorcycle Operators of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter; Mr. Tijjani Perkins and other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the occasion, Chairman/CEO, Femi Otedola said, the donation of crash helmets to motorcyclists for free is part of AP Plc’s firm belief that road safety is a collective responsibility of all. Also speaking at the occasion, COO, Tunde Falasinnu assured the general public that the project would be religiously implemented as the company did with the N50 per litre kerosene campaign which a lot of households in the country have benefited from.
